Seminar Update

Things at Seminar did not go my way. I ended up ill and missed my last two days of class. But I still enjoyed what I could. It was impossible for me to blog from my phone - either the Wifi connection was weak or my signal was non-existent.

This photo is from the opening banquet. At this moment Lorie Whelker was still Madame President, but we were about to install a new board. First, we got entertained by drummers and buffalo dancers.

The resort is lovely with lots of artwork. 

 Nearly everytime I walked by this butterfly, someone was stopped and taking its photo. It's made up of real individual butterflies.

For the closing banquet, the attendess from Oatlands had a table front and center. We were entertained by a Native American storyteller, but I honestly cannot remember a word he said. That's how sick I was. 
 
Classes for next year in Louisville look fantastic. You've got until November 21st to do early registration. Go to the EGA website and see what tempts you. 

Seminar Day One

My husband, Left Brain, and I arrived in Santa Fe yesterday afternoon. The hotel is beautiful, but it is very spread out with lots of walking.

We stopped at the International Folk Art Museum before checking in at Buffalo Thunder. What an amazing place. And who there buying tickets right in front of us, but our past-president, Tinka! We had a mini-reunion and agreed that there is tons of fine needlework in the Museum.

National Seminar

My husband and I will be leaving tomorrow at 6 a.m. to fly to Albuquerque. Right now I'm wondering why did I book such as early flight. We're spending the day in Albuquerque and will arrive in Santa Fe Saturday.

I'll try to post photos and my impressions every day. Looking forward to being asked red or green!

August Meeting 2012

Our August meeting featured an informative presentation by our own Michael Ann who brought many beautiful objects to delight us on the subject of goldwork. 

But first we have to have a small business meeting. Jane explaining the state of programs for the next few months.

A friendly reminder - if you are taking Marty tin necklace finishing class, you have exactly 3 weeks from today (as I am writing this on the first Wednesday of the month) to finish stitching your piece. I guess that means I should get started!

July Meeting

We are coming up on our Saturday meeting in July on the 28th. As we have for the past 2 years, this meeting will be held at the Vienna Presbyterian Church located at 124 Park Street, Vienna, VA 22180. It is across the street from the Whole Foods store and can easily be accessed from Maple Avenue (Route 123) or Church Street. Social time begins at 9:30 a.m.There will be a short business meeting at 10:00 a.m. before we begin our class with Pamela Darney.


If you arrived before 9:30, please wait till 9:30 before visiting our vendors. They need time to do set-up. 


A few photos from July 2011. Remember how hot that was? Maybe this year we can start a new cooling trend for this meeting. 

 In August we'll begin a conversation about Goldwork with our own Michael Ann. 
If you have any finished pieces, feel free to bring them to share. We will practice some techniques for which you might want to bring an 6" hoop, a tightly woven piece of non-stretchable fabric, a spool of fine metallic thread such as Kreinik, a selection of sharp needles including an extra large one for sinking, a pair of sharp tweezers and scissors appropriate for cutting metallic thread. Also useful too are a set of clamps to hold the
hoop/frame to the table.
